Note: at 39,
Rodman is an aging athlete in the twilight of his career, his best
days and five NBA Championships behind him. 1993 was a pivotal year
for him. Under the influence of transiting Uranus and Neptune on his
Capricorn Ascendant, he left the Detroit Pistons after a solid
seven-year tenure for San Antonio. As Neptune and Uranus made their
way through his first house, which rules the personality and
appearance, he transformed himself into the self-promoting, human
crayon that we all know and love/hate today. Phil Jackson lured him
to the Chicago Bulls in 1995. Rodman, Jackson and Michael Jordan all
have important planets and angles in late Capricorn and early
Aquarius, and the powerful Uranus and Neptune transit united them in
three consecutive NBA Championships.
More
recently, transiting Neptune and the Moon’s nodes have troubled
Rodman’s chart, touching off his natal Moon-Mars square. Mars in
the seventh house can be difficult in close relationships. His hasty
Vegas marriage to Carmen Electra sent him on a downward spiral,
trashing his season with the Lakers and resulting in an arrest for
mutual battery in Miami Beach. The upcoming transits of Saturn and
Jupiter through Taurus may not be easy for him, especially as
transiting Uranus in Aquarius moves into the square with his natal
Taurus Sun. We should expect to see some sudden and sweeping changes
in Rodman’s life. His coach on the Dallas Mavericks, Don Nelson,
is also a Taurus, and it ought to be interesting to see how these
two strong wills interact. Nelson has already indicated that he
plans to retire at the end of the season.
