Update
February 14, 2001
The
rumored breakup of Jennifer Lopez and Sean "Puffy" Combs was
confirmed by his publicist this Valentine's Day. In addition to the pressures
that any famous couple faces, the astrological
indicators in both of their lives are for sudden, powerful change.
Right
now, the explosive planet Uranus is making significant contacts to each
of their natal charts. Jennifer is the first entertainer to simultaneously
have the top selling CD and number one box office film, while Puffy is
on trial on gun charges. Uranus is forming a challenging 90-degree angle
(square) to his birth Venus and making the same pattern with Jennifer's
Saturn, the planet of limits. She's breaking records while Puffy's
planet of love and pleasure is being battered. Superstardom is glorifying
Jennifer's Sun in Leo at the same time that her ex is facing the darker side of his Sun
sign, Scorpio.
Forces
of Nature
Sean
"Puffy" Combs and Jennifer Lopez are two of the biggest stars
of the new Millennium, and certainly one of the most controversial couples.
Their affair kept gossip columnists busy just as Puffy became a new daddy—with
another woman. Both rising stars had a lot to risk, but their attraction
to each other was too much to resist. Why?
Where’s
the Connection?

On the surface, Leos like Jennifer Lopez and Scorpios like Puffy are more
likely to annoy than enjoy each other. The two signs make a fixed
square to each other, signaling that each partner's stubbornness
could bring out even more stubbornness in the other. However, Scorpios
are known for their subtle, behind-the-scenes prowess, and Leos love the
spotlight.
Just
as they hooked up together, Lopez's star began to rise as she received
huge critical praise for her role in the well-scripted, visually-arresting
Steven Soderbergh/Elmore Leonard crime story, Out of Sight.
Within a year of these kudos, she released her highly danceable album
On The 6, which became part of 1999's unprecedented "Latin
explosion." Lopez made the most of the amazing series of eclipses
that hit both her Sun (representing her self, and who she is in the world)
and her Venus (representing her romantic side) in 1999.
Puffy's
Mars (planet of sex and passion) sits right on Lopez's Uranus (planet
of abrupt change and progress) in romantic, and artistic Libra. This connection
implies that the more Lopez takes risks in the name of growth, the more
Puffy will be drawn to her. However, the couple does have their mellow
side, believe it or not! Combs' Moon in cautious, ambitious Capricorn
makes a sextile (a pleasant, easy aspect, or angle) to Lopez's Venus in
perfectionist, giving Virgo. Both of these earth signs are more than a
little work obsessed, so it's no wonder that their relationship sealed
as Lopez made a bigger commitment to music (Puffy's specialty) over movies
last year. With such controlling Sun and Moon signs (Scorpio and Capricorn), it wouldn't be surprising if Combs tried to play more of
a Svengali role in Lopez's music career.
Whether
Lopez will let him do that is hard to say. On the one hand, a Leo with
Moon in Aries may crave attention so much that she'll do anything to stay
famous. But on the other hand, both those fire signs burn fierce, so while
her star is shining bright, Ms. Lopez probably is more than happy to call
herself "the boss of me."
Trouble
In Mind?
There's
a hidden connection between these two lovers as well. Lopez's Neptune
(planet of illusion and confusion!) is conjunct Puffy's Venus in sexy
and dangerous Scorpio. Even completely sober and in the harsh light of
morning, Lopez may have the tendency to see her lover as a complete mystery,
even when he's just playing a video game or talking on the phone. Puffy
has the same conjunction within his own chart, and probably feeds her
illusions, because he himself, believes his own sexy, gangsta hype!
Decision
Time: May, 2000
We’ve
all heard by now one of the biggest celeb scandals of '99: gun charges
against Mr. Combs and (initially) Ms. Lopez. However, both stars are headed
for a period of time in which they will have to make some important decisions
and face the responsibility for their futures. Both will experience their
first "Saturn returns" next month. (Combs' is on May 8 and Lopez'
hits exactly on May 18, but a Saturn return is more of a cycle than just
one earth-shattering day!) During this time (which we all go through around
age twenty-nine or thirty), each of this famous pair will have to make
a sacrifice in the name of maturity and dedication to the long run of
their careers, their relationship and their lives.
Saturn
is all about hard work and discipline, and facing reality. When Saturn
is used practically and properly, it can be a great ally. For instance,
if we work and work at our craft, over time Saturn will pay off for us
and bring great success. But when folks fly in the face of Saturn, the
results are usually disastrous. Puffy may have to face the music and fess
up to some culpability during his trial to gain respect (and freedom)
in years to come, and Lopez may have to focus more intently on her music
if she doesn't want to end up filed under "last year's diva."
As for their union, both are going to have to decide whether to commit
in a more serious way or whether to part before they do more damage to
each other, as Saturn shouts at both of them: "It's time to grow
up!"
