If you’ve ever been to Vermont in the fall, then you will have seen the
dazzling display of deciduous leaves changing colors from green to shades
of gold, amber, orange and red. On September 13 at 12:37 pm (PDT), the
Moon grows full in Pisces. This Full Moon is the last of the summer and
signals the start of a new season, a time of change and letting go. As
the fall approaches, the mornings become a little brisker and the evening’s
cool winds come a little quicker. These environmental cues are signs to
tend to our health in preparation for the changes ahead.
In the last
article for the New
Moon, I described the need for Virgoan skills to prepare, organize
and plan for the upcoming changes into the darker months. This is still
a good time to focus on the details of preparation but with the Full Moon
in Pisces, this is also a good time to broaden our perspective and see
the larger picture. When we get caught up in the basics of life—getting
enough money to pay the bills, doing the errands and chores to run a household—we
can lose track of our larger goals and purpose in life. The Pisces Full
Moon is a perfect time to expand our horizons to see our role in the community
and society at large.
Service
Work
Ultimately,
the theme of Pisces is service and spiritual growth. When we focus our
numerous gifts and talents for the benefit of the community, we act as
conduits and channels for selfless expression. In essence, we become greater
than ourselves. Volunteering at a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen or
the local co-op are all ways to expand ourselves and serve others. Ultimately,
service work is a way of setting aside our personal ambitions and our
daily routine to develop our heart and compassion. When we surrender our
basic concerns and focus on the needs of others, whether it be a small
child, a drug addict or the environment, we reclaim our essential humanity
and our basic goodness.
Pisces
and the Immune System
The immune
system has long been linked to the planet Neptune, which is the ruler of
Pisces. With the Full Moon in Pisces and Neptune in a grand trine with
Jupiter and Mercury, now is a perfect opportunity to tend to this physiological
function. The immune system acts as the fundamental barrier of protection
from the outside world. It functions both emotionally and physically.
Physically, it works to dispel toxins and germs from damaging our health.
Emotionally, it shuts out verbal abuse, negative attacks and harmful people
who could damage our health. Many of us can have a hard time shutting
out emotional abuse and can feel sapped and drained in our home and/or
work life.
To protect
our immune system physically, we can take certain herbs regularly, such
as licorice and nettles. These herbs act as immune system tonics,
capable of strengthening and fortifying us. If we are prone to colds,
we can also take echinacea and goldenseal to ward off illness. Emotionally,
we can protect ourselves by becoming more assertive and by strengthening
our boundaries. Often we feel we are required to be nice and accommodating
to all people all the time. This can leave us feeling resentful and frustrated
after a while. This Pisces Full Moon may be a good time to learn to say
“no” and to be honest and confront someone if they are being emotionally
abusive toward you.
Pisces
and the Feet
In medical
astrology, Pisces is also connected to the feet. In foot reflexology,
each portion of the foot’s sole corresponds to a portion of the human
body. Foot reflexology works by the same method astrology works, “As above,
so below.” The sole of the foot is seen as a microcosm to the macrocosm
of human health and physiology. Massaging the sole of the foot then becomes
a profound way of augmenting and nourishing the health of all the organs
in our body. Besides foot massage, there are a number of ways to tend
to the feet to benefit our health. This is a good time to soak our feet
in a hot water bath with a few drops of essential
oil. Try lavender and mugwort oils for this practice. Also, walking around
in bare feet and stretching out our toes helps our feet to breathe and
gather good energy from the ground and the air.
Conclusion
As we move
into the fall, this Pisces Full Moon is a perfect time to expand our senses
and see ourselves as part of a great ocean of creation. Take the time
to go out under the night sky and take in the boundless panorama of stars
in the cosmos. With each breath, draw in the immense power and majesty
of the universe and see yourself as a part, a thread, in the vast fabric
of creation. Good health to you!
