NFL 2000
is off to a roaring start. We’ve already seen some stirring contests,
and some surprising developments. Tampa Bay is unbeaten and in strong
contention for a home-field Super Bowl, while the red-faced Redskins
have dropped two in a row. Monday nights are a lot more entertaining with
Dennis Miller
in the booth, while former quarterback Dan Fouts, with his gifted and
amusing commentary, has proven to be the real find.
Titans
Coach Jeff Fisher
In the AFC,
the reigning champion Tennessee Titans are struggling. After an opening
week loss in Buffalo, the Titans barely beat Kansas City in their home
opener. The Titans starting quarterback, Steve McNair, suffered a chest
injury in that game that will keep him out of action for several weeks.
If we examine the chart of Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher, I think we can
pinpoint the problem. He is having a very difficult Saturn transit.
Saturn will
test you to your limits. The ringed planet restricts whatever it touches,
so when Saturn touches your chart, it tightens the screws and turns on
the pressure to see what you’re really made of. These times are often
marked by obvious difficulties, but with hard work and discipline, they
can also be times of great achievement. Currently, transiting Saturn
at 0 degrees Gemini, is making difficult square aspects (90 degrees) to
several important points in Coach Fisher’s chart.
Jeff
Fisher was born on February 25, 1958, at 11:45 am PST in Culver City,
California. The Midheaven in his birth chart is found at 0 degrees of
the sign Pisces. The Midheaven, or MC, is an angle of the chart corresponding
to the position of the Sun overhead at midday. The Midheaven is associated
with the career, status or the point of highest public visibility.
The opposite
point is known as the IC, from the Latin for Imum Coeli, or bottom of
the sky. The IC corresponds to the position of the Sun beneath the Earth
at midnight, and, in contrast to the MC, it rules our depths and our roots,
our home life and family. In Fisher’s chart, the IC is at 0 degrees Virgo.
The Midheaven
and IC in Coach Fisher’s birth chart are especially emphasized by some
close planetary conjunctions. His Mercury at 1 degree Pisces is conjunct
his Midheaven while his Pluto, at 0 degrees Virgo, is conjunct his IC.
The current
position of Saturn, at 0 degrees Gemini, is forming a 90-degree angle
to, or square, Coach Fisher’s Midheaven-Mercury conjunction and his IC-Pluto
conjunction. This places him under significant stress, generating an on-going
series of problems that demand his attention. It doesn’t look like Saturn
will let up any time soon, either. Saturn has made its station at 0 degrees
Gemini, slowing down to a halt and then slowly turning retrograde. In
doing so, Saturn grinds his imprint into that degree, seemingly marking
his place until his return. Saturn will be in reverse gear for the remainder
of the season, backing all the way up to 24 degrees Taurus before it resumes
forward motion on January 25, 2001. Coach Fisher’s Moon is at 24 degrees
Taurus, and will be contacted by Saturn, which makes a return trip to
the Super Bowl increasingly unlikely.
The
New York Giants
On the other hand, in the NFC, the New York Giants are off to a surprisingly
strong start. The Giants have struggled in recent years as their head
coach, Jim Fassel, has grappled with a difficult Pluto transit. Coach
Fassel was born on August 31, 1949, at 12:21 am PST in Orange, California.
With a natal Sun-Saturn conjunction in Virgo, he is one serious, hard-working
guy. During the past two seasons, transiting Pluto in Sagittarius has
been in a 90-degree square angle to his Virgo Sun-Saturn conjunction.
The square has been frustrating, manifesting the down side of his Saturn
in Virgo—lots of hard work, but little to no success. Now that Pluto has
moved on and finally separated from that square, there is a great sense
of release and relief. All the agony and effort are starting to pay off,
as the Giants are off to a 3–0 start.
Tampa
Bay Quarterback Shaun King
Jupiter in Gemini is making his presence felt around the league. Jupiter
is easy to spot. Just look for the winners and you will probably find
a distinct link between their birth charts and Jupiter’s transiting position.
The current chosen one appears to be Tampa Bay quarterback Shaun
King, born May 29, 1977, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Transiting
Jupiter is conjunct his natal Sun-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini, and also
aspecting his natal Saturn and Pluto. The unbeaten Bucs, long feared as
a defensive power, now have a range of fearsome, offensive weapons at
King’s disposal.
Enter
the Twins
The most
amusing manifestation of Jupiter in Gemini (sign of the twins) has to
be the sudden emergence of twins Ronde and Tiki Barber, born April 7,
1975, in Montgomery County, Virginia. Ronde plays cornerback for Tampa
Bay and Tiki is a running back for the Giants. The two simultaneously
leapt out of obscurity after week two by leading the league in both rushing
(Tiki) and sacks (Ronde). Further stretching the twins metaphor, Tiki
Barber has been paired in the Giants backfield with rookie Heisman Trophy
winner, Ron Dayne. The running duo, nicknamed “Thunder and Lightning,”
have spoiled many a sunny, Sunday afternoon for their opponents, while
clearing the storm clouds out of Coach Jim Fassel’s sky.
There’s plenty
more football to come, so enjoy the games, but keep your eye on the sky!
