The Infant Moon Through the Signs

Moon in Aries

Often restless, impatient and prone to quick outbursts, these infants need immediate attention, an active environment and frequent changes of routine. Naturally independent, they do not mind being alone. Drawn to novelty and change, distraction is a wonderful way to calm them. Their emotional reactions are immediate and mom seldom has to guess how they feel about an experience.

Moon in Taurus

Often serene, what these infants need most is physical comfort, a predictable routine and a solid, peaceful, consistent environment that involves pleasing physical sensations. When stressed by change or discord, they can instinctively soothe themselves. Although slow to react, they do have a temper, and when it flares only patience and time may calm them down.

Moon in Gemini

Often bored with consistency, these infants change moods quickly, need mental stimulation (talk to them even if they can’t understand), freedom from routine and a highly social environment. Diversity and distractions will help them cope with unpleasant situations. Claustrophobic, they can easily feel trapped. They need freedom of movement and should not be swaddled too tightly.

Moon in Cancer

This is the archetypal infant. Often highly sensitive, their emotions are easily stimulated. They have a strong attachment to mom and their primary need is for nurturance and protection in an environment that is cozy and quiet. Easily upset, often only mom can calm them. More than any other Moon position, this infant needs a nurturing, stable family life.

Moon in Leo

Often dramatic, these infants naturally use histrionics to draw the special attention they need. They are most comfortable in a consistently warm, affectionate and playful environment where their grand emotional expressions are appreciated. Slow to react, their natural pride and sunny disposition could make it difficult to determine their feelings about a situation.

Moon in Virgo

These infants need an orderly routine within an orderly environment. If they are kept clean, warm, dry and well fed, they are peaceful and undemanding. Often shy and not demonstrative, they have difficulty expressing emotions. So when they become even a bit anxious or fussy, mom should understand they need something, find out what it is and try to meet the need.

Moon in Libra

Often tranquil, these infants are social, actively engage others and need the continual presence of a loving, caring person. They are the most secure in social environments that are peaceful, calm and harmonious. They cannot endure loud voices or arguments, and can be frozen by aggressive behavior. When upset, a soft reassuring voice will often calm them.

Moon in Scorpio

Deeply sensitive and innately suspicious, these infants need privacy, commitment and time to learn to trust. They are most comfortable in protective environments where intense emotions can be released in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. When upset, they may appear unfazed and react only later, therefore mom must watch for subtle changes to insure they get the necessary protection.

Moon in Sagittarius

This infant is adaptable, cheerful and happiest in environments that are active, playful and filled with laughter. Independent and adventurous, they have little difficulty leaving mom and love to be taken to new places. Naturally excessive, their emotional reactions are honest and swift. They smile, coo and gurgle when happy and cry loudly until picked up when upset.

Moon in Capricorn

These infants appear serious, are not inclined to cuddle and are seldom drawn to tears. They need predictability and ritual patterns in their environment. Quietly active, they resist calling attention to themselves. Mom and dad are their world, but they have difficulty expressing their emotions. When insecure, they are quiet and stoic and can be soothed with love and affection.

Moon in Aquarius

These infants often feel the need to rebel and find change exciting. They are emotionally steady and appear detached from normal infant demands. They are inventive and prone to unprovoked outbursts of wailing just to see what mom’s reaction might be. They need special attention in an unrestricted environment that offers unusual social contacts and change from routine.

Moon in Pisces

These are the sweetest babies in the world. They are adaptable, trusting, shy, emotionally sensitive to others and devoted to mom. They need a peaceful, tranquil environment where they are treated gently and protected from harshness and negativity. Tears are a natural outlet for their extreme sensitivity. These infants never demand, but need mom’s devoted attention.
