The hugely
popular "game show" Survivor II is about to wind
down on May 3, after starting off on January 28 with sixteen hopeful contestants
vying for the $1 million grand prize. Doing their best to make it in the
often-unforgiving Australian Outback, these "tribal members"
tried to outsmart and outlast each other during many a challenging episode.
Now, only a handful of underfed, worn-out players are left, including
the two most competitive who stand the best chance of making it to the
final showdown—Tina and Colby. But who knows? Maybe a few last-minute
surprises are awaiting viewers (I’m writing this as of April 16, 2001).
Capricorn
Tina
Being
a no-nonsense Capricorn means that Tina Wesson was born able to endure
hardships, when necessary, without falling apart at the seams. Although
low-key and soft-spoken, Tina has an intuitive mind plus awesome endurance
and determination. She also showed an ability to make gutsy, split-second
decisions when she dove into the fast-moving waters to help retrieve a
sealed canister of rice after a heavy rainstorm caused flash flooding
that nearly washed their campsite away. To look at her, sedate Tina may
not seem the type who'll take big risks, yet she will when winning is
at stake. When in the pursuit of high achievement, Capricorn’s focused
ambition can overcome formidable obstacles.
Tina’s
Sun opposes her Mars, a most important planet to consider when one is operating
in survivor mode. Mars symbolizes the fighter in us who refuses to give
up or give in. Anyone who agrees to be on this physically demanding show
will have his or her Mars potential sorely tested. Tina’s Sun-Mars
opposition describes her as someone whose will and ego (Sun) are well fueled by a
competitive drive to succeed in action (Mars), sometimes at the expense
of others (opposition aspect). She's loaded with inner strength and can
be a quiet but enduring adversary.
Folks with
this pattern seem fearless in the face of difficulty or danger. Capricorn
won’t reveal much of its game plan, but it's nonetheless a shrewd and
plotting sign. Tina showed her ruthless, "all business" side
when she calmly voted out Maralyn, an Aquarius who was sure that Tina
was her soul sister. Yet cool-headed Tina gave "Mad Dog" a quick
and unemotional "you are the weakest link, goodbye" send-off!
Capricorn will not let sentiment get in the way of making it to the top.
The previous winner, Aries Richard
Hatch, showed how traits like this can help any contestant
to become the top-prize survivor.
Aries
Colby
Colby
Donaldson is the most athletically accomplished of all the contestants.
He'll bravely face even the most grueling challenges without batting an
eyelash, which is typical of the daring fire sign under which he was born.
His Mars in Gemini means he’s highly adaptable, quick to size up situations
and able to use his excellent eye-hand coordination to win many of the
games required to receive the immunity necklace (which protects one from
getting voted out by the tribe). Colby’s won immunity several times, due
partly to the brightness and speed of his Gemini Mars and his Aries physical
prowess.
His Mars
also makes a tense aspect to his Mercury (the planet that stimulates thinking
and speaking), which gives him a bit of a short fuse. His irritable side
suddenly came out when, in frustration, he unloaded a bucket of water
on Jerri, whom he indirectly blamed for not helping him to win a game.
I guess Jerri won’t be voting in favor of him in the finals, especially
since he also shunned her potentially romantic advances, to boot.
Aries, like
Capricorn, is also a no-nonsense sign that will only play to win, not
just to have a good time. It can be very intense once it's focused. Handsome
Colby—with his charming smile—nonetheless transforms into a stern-faced
warrior when he’s ready to compete. His Sun makes a tense aspect to his
Pluto, an obsessive planet associated with ultimate survivor skills, ones
that help us to endure arduous conditions at length in order to achieve
our objectives.
Too
Close to Call
What may
work against Colby is that his Mercury in Pisces—a sign that can innocently
attract betrayal—is undergoing a difficult transit from Pluto (associated
with backstabbers). Perhaps he has said a few things while trying to work
out secret strategies with other players that will come back to bite him.
Maybe his winning streak has stirred hidden jealousies among those who
were once his allies. In addition,
transiting Saturn squared Colby’s Venus during most of the episodes, which can imply
a lack of female support when most needed. That’s another strike against
him, astrologically. However, transiting Jupiter favorably aspects his
Sun, suggesting a potential for prosperity and positive social attention
on some level. He could end up victorious—and rich—in May.
If Tina and
Colby are the last two left, and if the votes are tied, the one tie-breaking
vote that may make the difference could be Jerri’s, and she is apt to
favor Tina. I personally think Colby deserves to win for his consistently
strong performance throughout these episodes. Yet even if these two do
not make it to the final showdown, at least astrology offers insights
into what makes Tina and Colby the excellent Survivor players
that they are.
