Jupiter is the largest of all the true planets. Its
mass is greater than all the rest of the planets combined.
If it was only 20% larger it would develop enough
heat at its core to become a star. Astrologically, Jupiter
is the planet of expansion, growth and optimism. Known
as The Greater Benefic, it symbolizes good luck
and fortune. In the ancient Indian language Sanskrit
Jupiter is called "guru" or teacher. This fits its
association with the higher mind, philosophy, truth
and religion. Perhaps Jupiter's good fortune derives
from the capacity to give us a larger view in which
to see the world.
Expansive Jupiter in relationship-oriented Libra brings greater wisdom to partnerships, negotiations and diplomacy. A new understanding of individual and national alliances helps to bridge barriers that have separated us in the past.
Jupiter's tendency toward excess can be tempered in this objective air sign. Rather than going to religious extremes and judgment, we have a chance to meet one another halfway, recognizing that any perspective, no matter how wide, can encompass only half the story. Justice, common to both Jupiter and Libra, will be served by civil dialogue, and an open exchange of ideas. We can only hope that public discourse and private conversation are served with Libran grace and Jupiter's wisdom at this time.
Jupiter in Libra is present in the chart of writers Thomas Mann, Gertrude Stein, Robert Louis Stevenson, Eugene Ionesco, Bertold Brecht, Erich Maria Remarque and Jack Kerouac. Musicians Neil Young, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Cher, Dolly Parton, Marilyn Manson, Leonard Cohen, Van Cliburn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn, Johann Sebastian Bach and George Freidrich Handel were also born with Jupiter in Libra.
This group includes millionaires Donald Trump, John D. Rockefeller and William Randolph Hearst and political leaders Bill Clinton, Ralph Nader, George McGovern, Yitzhak Rabin, Winston Churchill, Otto Von Bismarck and George Washington. Others born with Jupiter in Libra include designers Pierre Cardin and Bill Blass, artist Paul Cezanne, Jacques Cousteau, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther and Carl Jung.
Hollywood is represented with Jupiter in Libra by directors Oliver Stone and David Lynch and actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Pfeiffer, Melanie Griffith, Goldie Hawn, Judy Garland and Brigitte Bardot.
