Obama-Clinton Dream Team?
Political history was made last Tuesday when Barack Obama clinched the Democratic Party's nomination for president. Then, on Saturday Hillary Clinton finally conceded his victory, as she suspended her campaign and urged her 18 million supporters to back Obama. Behind the scenes, the Clinton camp let Obama know that she would accept the #2 slot if it were offered.
Astrologically, the dream team ticket of Obama-Clinton is a hard sell. While both politicians want the Democrats to win in November, their charts don't mesh well. Her Moon in Pisces is exactly opposite his Mars, a polarity now being activated by transiting Uranus. The Moon-Mars aspect, according to synastry expert Steven Forrest, is "a torrid, ardent, and inherently unstable combination."
Also, her intensely driven Mars-Pluto conjunction in Leo sits right on his Sun, so that he will always feel her intentions, like an annoying back seat driver. And if Obama's 1:06 pm birth time is correct, Hillary's Saturn is conjunct his Midheaven and Uranus, so that she feels like the authority in his professional role, and that she questions or restricts his urges for radical change.
On the plus side, Hillary's Jupiter is exactly opposite his Moon, and ties in well with several other planets in his horoscope. It took a while for Hillary to fully express the natural enthusiasm of this Jupiter, since Saturn squares her Scorpio Ascendant. But with her progressed Jupiter now trine Mars, she is a new person, and capable of giving Obama her full support, even if he doesn't select her as his Vice President, which astrologically, seems most likely.
The Oil Bubble
Last Friday an unprecedented $10 surge in oil prices accompanied by the highest rise in unemployment figures in 22 years sent the stock markets tumbling, with the Dow losing nearly 400 points. Just the day before, billionaire investor George Soros testified before a Senate committee that it needs to act immediately to avoid a speculative bubble in the price of oil.
As described last week, oil prices are in an extremely volatile phase now because transiting Uranus is opposing the U.S. Neptune. In the Scorpio Rising horoscope, Uranus is passing through the Fifth House of speculation. As Soros was testifying, Uranus was only 0º03' from opposing the U.S. Neptune. His message was that institutional investors are now acting like speculators, which is creating a bubble in oil prices.
The last time Uranus was in the U.S. Fifth House and opposite Neptune was in 1925 at the height of the Teapot Dome scandal. At the time, the trials surrounding the improper leasing of an oil field in Wyoming were billed as the largest government scandal of the century. A few years later, when the stock market crashed, those implicated in the oil scandal were among the first to lose their fortunes.
Bubbles tend to pop when the outer planets are forming major configurations, usually involving Uranus, the planet of the unexpected. The dot-com tech bubble burst in April 2000, as transiting Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct while squaring Uranus. The crash on October 19, 1987 unfolded as transiting Jupiter and Uranus were exactly trine, and Uranus itself was squaring the U.S. Neptune. We'll watch with anticipation as transiting Saturn and Uranus oppose each other in a few months.
Ed McMahon's Housing Crisis
Ever since Saturn entered Ed McMahon's Second House of money, he's been having financial problems. Last week on Larry King Live, he explained how someone who's made millions in show business managed to fall behind $644,000 on his mortgage payments. "Well, if you spend more money than you make, you know what happens." He also mentioned a broken neck, a couple of divorces, and bad planning.
Ed McMahon was born with his Sun in Pisces March 6, 1923; 2:23 pm; Detroit, Michigan) conjunct Uranus and trine Jupiter, a wonderfully outgoing combination that brought him fame and fortune as Johnny Carson's sidekick. This combination tends to be extremely lucky, as it attracts good friends and career-enhancing opportunities, and is keenly attuned to all the glitz and glamour of show business.
With Neptune close to the cusp of his Second House, McMahon's financial sense tends toward the intuitive. Neptune here is not practical, but more trusting that the universe will provide. Unfortunately, Neptune opposes Mercury in the Eighth House of shared assets, and squares flamboyant Jupiter in the Fifth House of gambling and entertainment. This T-square creates over-confidence, poor risk assessment, and the danger of huge alimony payments.
In September 2006, transiting Saturn entered his Second House, and the financial house of cards that he had built began tumbling down. He broke his neck in a fall around that time, as he physically acted out his financial mess. Fortunately, Saturn leaves his Second House this September. Then Uranus turns direct in late November while trine his Jupiter. This could bring a great windfall, and end his financial woes.
