Warren Buffet, The Richest Man in the World

In 2008 Warren Buffet replaced Bill Gates at the top of the Forbes 400 wealthiest people list.  While most of America went into panic mode over the recent Wall Street meltdown, Buffet invested $3 billion in General Electric and $5 billion in Goldman Sachs. "You want to be greedy when others are fearful, and you want to be fearful when others are greedy," he explained.

Buffet was born with his Sun in analytical Virgo (August 30, 1930; Omaha, Nebraska; time unknown). According to Forbes, there are more Virgo billionaires than any other Sun sign, perhaps due to their hardworking, perfectionist natures. Buffet's Sun is given an intuitive advantage by its conjunction with visionary Neptune, and the business-oriented, practical Virgo qualities are underscored by a close trine to Saturn in earthy Capricorn.

Many of Buffet's natal planets are in close aspect to planets in the U.S. horoscope. Chief among these is his Jupiter at 13º Cancer, which is exactly conjunct the U.S. Sun. This Jupiter squares Uranus at 14º Aries, which in turn is precisely opposite the U.S. Saturn. If we think of the U.S. Sun-Saturn square as America's leadership and institutional framework, Buffet's Jupiter-Uranus square becomes a progressive, innovative push to the American system.

Buffet's Mars in early Cancer is conjunct the U.S. Venus, which describes his driving interest in American monetary policies. With Buffet's Mars squaring his Mercury, he has developed an ability to communicate complex financial matters in vivid, simple terms*. Over the next few months, as transiting Pluto aligns with the U.S. Venus and Buffet's Mars, we may expect that he will assume a larger role in shaping America's economic make-over.

Saturn-Uranus and Anarchy in the Streets?

A NewsScope reader wonders if "there will be no election in 2008 due to some kind of catastrophic event occurring in October." She cites various psychics who warn of a terrorist attack that will kill millions, bring monetary collapse, and anarchy in the streets. "It does seem that the Saturn-Uranus opposition you write of for October provides some astrological support for this doomsday scenario."

The potential for a domestic terrorist event seems quite possible. Using the Scorpio Rising horoscope, progressed Mars** is at 18º Libra in the Twelfth House  of Secret Enemy action. On September 11, 2001, the progressed Ascendant was at 18º Cancer, activating this dangerously placed Mars. Whenever the U.S. progressed Mars is activated in a big way, the potential for surprise attacks may manifest.

The panic that shook Wall Street on September 15, 2008 unfolded as transiting Mercury, Venus, and Mars formed a triple conjunction to this Twelfth House Mars. Warren Buffet called it an "economic Pearl Harbor." The underlying difficulty with the ongoing Saturn-Uranus opposition is that Uranus is backing up to 18º Pisces and will turn direct on November 26 while only 0º04' from an exact quincunx to the U.S. progressed Mars. This spells trouble.

President Bush's horoscope reiterates these dynamics. His progressed Mars is now at 18º Libra, where it conjoins his natal Jupiter at 18º Libra (and both are conjunct the U.S. progressed Mars). Over the next two weeks his progressed Moon (at 18º Capricorn) will square this complex, activating it in some dramatic way. Theoretically, these action-oriented developments could relate to the robust efforts to bail out Wall Street, though the repeated Mars influences do warn of terrorism or unexpected military conflict.

O.J. Simpson, Murder Revisited

Thirteen years to the day after O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the brutal murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, he was found guilty of all charges related to a robbery in Las Vegas. The symmetry of these dates, along with Mercury retrograde, invite a look into the June 12, 1994 crime scene for an astrological cold case investigation.

Using simple transits to O.J.'s horoscope (July 9, 1947; 8:08 am; San Francisco, CA) at the time of the murder (June 12, 1994; 10:30 pm; Brentwood, CA) doesn't reveal much: transiting Mars is near his Midheaven, while transiting Saturn in the seventh house of "others" is quincunx (150º) his twelfth house Pluto, perhaps stirring up some deep, violent passions.

To get the full picture, the astrologer needs to use asteroids and secondary progressions. The key to this event is O.J.'s Moon in emotional divided Pisces, located in the Eighth House of Sex. Natally, the Moon is part of a T-square  involving Uranus opposite Juno (the marriage asteroid), a combination that leads to regular separations and "open" relationships. The Moon also forms a trioctile (135º) to Saturn and Pluto in the Twelfth House, which describes his hidden control freak.

At the time of the murder, O.J.'s progressed Uranus was only 0º02' from a precise square to his conflicted Moon. Transiting Uranus activated this combination by forming a sextile (orb also 0º02'), while transiting Pluto was exactly trine his Moon. Transiting Mars was exactly squaring his progressed Saturn (orb 0º07') in the Twelfth House, so that his pent up frustrations were released in an explosion of rage.
