Geopolitical Synchronicity: John Key and Barack Obama

A NewsScope reader from New Zealand reports that their recently elected Prime Minister, John Key, was born only a few days after Barack Obama. "Don't know the time or place, but it might be interesting to see the differences between such a conservative and such a liberal as they take on the highest office in their country."

John Key was born on August 9, 1961 (Auckland, NZ; time unknown), and like Obama, has Uranus conjunct his North Node dynamically aspected to Saturn. He became the Prime Minister on November 8 by championing "change," which in New Zealand meant overturning the liberal Labour Party. Both he and Obama were born with the Saturn-Uranus natal signature, and both came into office as transiting Saturn and Uranus opposed each other.

A major difference between their horoscopes is the Moon's position. Obama's Moon in Gemini reflects a traumatic early life by the squares to Pluto and Chiron. Eventually, he developed a healthy worldview, largely facilitated by the Moon's close trine to Jupiter, which also blessed him with charismatic speaking ability. Key's Moon is in security-conscious Cancer and opposes Saturn, perhaps a clue that he would turn toward a more conservative worldview.

Key triumphed over the former Prime Minister Helen Clark, and Obama triumphed over Hillary Clinton. All four have Juno prominently located at the Aries point, which has been activated by Pluto's ingress into Capricorn. The NZ HC (b. February 26, 1950) has Juno at 0º Libra, while the NY HC has Juno at 29 ½º Sagittarius*. Obama and Key have Juno at 0º Aries, and as transiting Pluto squares this point in mid-December, perhaps one HC or the other will join forces with the Leo in charge.

The Green New Deal

Last week's volatility in the stock market reflects widespread uncertainty about the $700 billion bailout, especially after Treasury Secretary Paulson changed the plan. Meanwhile, environmentalists fear that the financial chaos is distracting politicians from the more important problem of global warming. Recently, a growing number of policy-makers have proposed a radical solution that would solve both problems: the Green New Deal**.

Astrologically, the outer planet T-square that was in effect in the 1930s resonates strongly with the one heading our way over the next few years. Back then, Saturn was opposed Pluto, as both squared Uranus. Now we're entering the influence of Saturn opposite Uranus square Pluto. In both cases, the three-planet configuration has led to economic chaos. The Aquarian FDR implemented the New Deal, which put men to work to rebuild the decaying infrastructure.

On November 26 Uranus turns direct while forming an exact hard aspect to the U.S. progressed Mars. As previously noted, this astro-event corresponds to the collapsing Big Three automakers, plus crazy gyrations in the stock market. Under the Green New Deal, the automakers would get government cash if they re-tooled to make green cars. Building a green infrastructure would help stabilize the economy by creating new jobs while combating global warming.

However, with the current Uranian influence, Congress is in panic mode, and incapable of initiating such an innovative program under Lame W. Duck. Potentially, one might expect some good news and growing optimism when transiting Jupiter conjoins the U.S. Pluto at the end of December. Jupiter then enters Aquarius on January 5, when it brings the benefits of networking, synergy and a new start, which are the primary ingredients needed for a Green New Deal.

Jennifer Aniston Opens Up about Brad

The current issue of Vogue magazine is getting plenty of press for its interview with Jennifer Aniston, wherein she breaks her silence about ex-hubby Brad Pitt's affair with Angelina Jolie. Last week on Oprah, Jennifer tried to downplay some of the bitterness she expressed, and that evening was spotted with her musician boyfriend John Mayer, as they danced into the wee morning hours.

Jennifer Aniston was born with her Sun in the "friends" sign of Aquarius (February 11, 1969; 10:22 pm; Sherman Oaks, CA), which is energized and empowered by a dynamic square to Mars in Scorpio. While the Aquarius Sun tends to be cool and aloof, her Mars influence is driven, passionate, and intensely competitive. Venus and Saturn in Aries just add more fire.

John Mayer (October 16, 1977; Bridgeport, CT; time unknown) was also born with his Sun in an air sign closely aspecting Mars in a water sign. In this case, Mars is in its fall in Cancer, where it often brings bouts of moodiness and gloom. He and Jennifer have mutual Mars-Saturn squares, so this relationship has a painful yo-yo quality to it that cannot last much longer.

The latest reports indicate that Brad is not happy that Jennifer called Angie "uncool." Oddly enough, Jennifer's new film Marley and Me opens December 25, the same day that Brad's new film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button opens. As much as the Aquarian side of Jennifer wishes Brad the best of luck, transiting Pluto conjunct her Juno on Christmas tells us a very different story—especially if his movie fares better than hers.

*Hillary Clinton's Juno is at 29º 33' Sagittarius. Note that last Thursday Obama invited her to Chicago to discuss her possible role as Secretary of State as transiting Pluto was exactly, to-the-minute, conjunct her Juno.
