Obama's Key Cabinet Appointments
Timothy Geithner's Sun in Leo (August 18, 1961; New York, NY; time unknown) conjoins Uranus and forms a quincunx to Saturn. As Secretary of the Treasury, he will be charged with creating innovative financial programs (Uranus) to resuscitate the economy while attempting to safeguard existing institutions (Saturn). The tension between his Saturn and Uranus indicates the periodic need for sudden and unpredictable changes in strategy.
With Mercury conjunct Uranus and quincunx Jupiter Geithner is gifted with an intellectual curiosity and broad-minded worldview, one that has allowed him to understand and foresee the collapse of the financial industry built on vulnerable hedge fund derivatives. Geithner's Mars in early Libra is now being activated by a square from transiting Pluto, indicating he's working on an immediate and comprehensive action plan.
Hillary Clinton (October 26, 1947; 8:02 am; Chicago, IL) was born with an exact conjunction of Mars and Pluto in Leo, giving her a warrior's fighting spirit, especially when she's on a noble mission. This Mars-Pluto combo is right on Obama's Leo Sun, which helps explain their frequent heated interactions. However, designating her as Secretary of State is astrologically synergistic, since her Mars-Pluto is in the Ninth House of Foreign Affairs.
Ms. Clinton is bound to be an international star in this new role. As Pluto enters Capricorn it will trine her Virgo Midheaven, bringing her into the transformational situations that are restructuring our global village. Her progressed Sun also trines her Midheaven, so that between Pluto and her progressed Sun, she is becoming empowered in ways that she imagined she would be as president.
Top Five Astro-Events for December
1. The Sun conjoins Mars on December 5, giving an energetic boost to all activities from the 1st to 7th. Starting new projects and recreational activities are favored. Meet hotheads, arrogance and highly opinionated people with patience. Watch out for accidents, especially as Mars advances to square Saturn and Uranus through the 15th.
2. The Full Moon on December 12 squares the ongoing Saturn-Uranus polarity, as all four planets align with the U.S. Mars. This highly stressful complex can spur traffic snarls and short tempers. The Full Moon is exactly conjunct the U.S. Mars, bringing major developments in the automobile industry, and perhaps a minor disaster in an American city.
3. Barack Obama's progressed Moon enters his First House on December 17. For the past two years, while his progressed Moon was in the 12th House, he voiced collective aspirations to wage a successful campaign. Now, the president elect emerges with his plan for action and the necessary people in place to implement the changes.
4. The Sun conjunct Pluto on December 22 marks the first recognizable manifestation of Pluto in Capricorn. This power day brings a constructive surge of political, financial, and military actions on the world stage. Also, watch for ruthless power plays and strong-arm actions as the destructive side of Pluto is energized by a conjunction with Mars on the 28th.
5. Transiting Jupiter conjoins the U.S. Pluto on December 25, ushering in a renewed sense of optimism. Signs of economic stability may trigger a round of institutional buying and a technical rebound, though the long term remains uncertain. This conjunction takes place once every twelve years, and previously initiated the second terms of both Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.
Re-Boot Star Trek
The trailer for the new Star Trek film was released last week, and by all accounts, this prequel will be one of the best. Zachary Quinto (June 2, 1977) reprises the role of Spock, while Chris Pine (August 26, 1980) plays Captain James T. Kirk, as they and other memorable characters from the original Enterprise crew battle evil Romulans who are interfering with history.
Astrologers can track the Star Trek franchise by using the initial airing of the TV series* (September 8, 1966; 8:30 pm; New York, NY). This foundation horoscope features the Sun in analytical Virgo conjunct the epochal Uranus-Pluto conjunction. This combination describes the high-tech, futuristic nature of Star Trek, as well as the orderly (Sun in Virgo) interactions of the crew that are frequently interrupted by one lethal crisis or another (Uranus-Pluto).
The Moon in talkative Gemini squares an opposition between Saturn and Uranus. This original show introduced a device called the "communicator" that became the model for today's cell phones. Filming for Star Trek XI began in November 2007 under intense secrecy as transiting Pluto opposed the Star Trek Moon.
Transiting Saturn will be conjunct the Star Trek Sun when the next film debuts on May 8, 2009, which will test whether the franchise will reach the next generation. A spectacular three-planet alignment unfolds in April and May 2009 as this film reaches the public: transiting Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune will all be around 25º Aquarius, which is right on the U.S. Moon. Star Trek XI is only one of many events that will capture the public's imagination under this dramatic celestial influence.
