Jeff Jawer comments on The Soul Purpose: Attaining Fulfillment and Security with Astrology by David R. Railey
In the early 1980s David Railey and I ran a storefront astrology practice and metaphysical bookstore in Atlanta called The Daily Planets. David and I became partners after collaborating on an astrological reading commissioned for the Mayor of Atlanta. I quickly recognized the depth of his astrological knowledge and his ability to express those ideas in clear, compassionate and practical terms. In those days, David was so consistent in the use of the Moon’s Nodes in his work that I used to tease him about it. Nevertheless, the magic he performed with these points made a significant impact on my work and I, like many contemporary astrologers, apply the nodes in every consultation.
David’s recently revised version of The Soul Purpose updates his research on the Moon’s Nodes to make the book even more valuable. His detailed interpretations of the nodes in each sign include biographical details of famous people and private clients to bring these principles to life. David’s experience as a screenwriter shows his abilities as a storyteller who brings the nodal principles to life.
Chapters on each North and South Node pair welcomes us with quotations of famous people with that combination in their birth charts. For the North Node in Capricorn—South Node in Cancer, for example, he cites Oprah Winfrey’s “Power is strength over time” and John F. Kennedy’s “For those to whom much is given, much is required.” These quotes set the stage for the deeper psychological, biographical and astrological material that follows. Each chapter of The Soul Purpose includes sections on career and relationships to describes the nodes’ role in these critical areas. A Life Cycles section examines timing issues related to the Lunar Nodes.
This isn’t a book review; it’s a recommendation to astrologers, students of astrology and all those who desire to better understand themselves and the meaning of their lives. The book is written in language that compliments astrological education and speaks to non-astrologers. A table of Lunar Node positions makes it useful for everyone. The book’s subtitle, Attaining Fulfillment and Security with Astrology, underscores David’s rationale for this important work. The Soul Purpose reveals meaning and offers guidance and direction for all those seeking a more fulfilling life.
