Jupiter in Aquarius: Getting Smarter
The current economic crisis is raising stress levels around the world. Added to the usual wars, famine and natural disasters, it’s easy to be pessimistic. Yet while the opposition between reliable Saturn and chaotic Uranus that began last fall still has more than a year to go, there is good news in the astrological mix. Jupiter, the planet of wisdom and optimism, is spending the rest of the year in innovative Aquarius. This symbolizes an opening of minds to help us tap into the enormous reserve of human potential and find solutions to our most serious problems. As the old economic model is melting down, lucky Jupiter’s presence in this intellectually rich sign is likely to spur many fresh ideas to brighten up the future.
A key concept to tapping into Aquarius’ promise is the ability of each of us to expand our consciousness. Aquarius is a decentralized sign that recognizes the collective power we draw from the diversity ideas of individuals. Waiting for the PhDs and policy wonk bureaucrats to come up with answers could leave us clueless and mired in our current mess. However, every time one of us stretches our mind we contribute to the intellectual power of all of us. This doesn’t mean that you and I are required to directly solve the complicated issues of the economy, ethnic strife or the environment. If enough of us expand our minds in addressing the concerns in our own lives, the collective consciousness—and problem-solving abilities—of all of us will grow.
For those who are worried about Mayan prophecies and 2012, the time to act is now. The future is being made in the present; if we passively await our fate we will have no influence on its direction. Yet when we open our eyes wider and invite in new ideas, the neural network of humanity will kick into a higher gear and provide us with positive images that we can turn into reality. The intelligence that Jupiter in Aquarius represents is not arrogant, self-righteous or all knowing. Its power comes from a desire to learn and a belief that a spirit of tolerance generates more valuable information than one of authority and control. Open minds will open the way to the next great leap in the human experience on planet earth. Keep thinking.
