Split, but not divorced, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are giving personal definition to love and relationships.

Bruce Willis, perennial bachelor, met and married Demi Moore in 1987. Their marriage, which began with a kitschy unconventional union (they were, after all, married in Las Vegas by Little Richard), soon evolved into a rocky, resource-driven, Hollywood version of mom, pop and the kids.

Now, two years after the couple’s announced separation, Bruce says he doesn’t believe in the general success of long-term fidelity or monogamy. But the couple’s millions of dollars in joint real estate holdings have yet to be distributed, and there is still only speculation about an eventual divorce.

As Bruce travels the world with a new love, takes risks and stretches himself with new roles in the movies and on TV, Demi stretches herself in another direction. Once the highest paid female star in Hollywood, Demi is now semi-retired from filmmaking and a stay-at-home mom, with a new love of her own.

A look at their individual horoscopes reveals that marital bliss might be difficult, and perhaps undesirable for either to sustain over time. Both Bruce and Demi have Venus (love) square (challenging) Mars (sexual desire). When love and sexual desire clash within an individual’s psyche, the person has a dilemma and seems to need complex and difficult relationships in which to work it out.

Bruce’s Dilemma

How do you love-em and leave-em while hanging on to all you have?

Bruce Willis, born March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, has Venus (how he forms relationships and expresses affection) in the social, idealistic and individualistic sign of Aquarius. Free and unconventional with his affections, Bruce is flirtatious, experimental and loves an active social life. He may appear to be the cool dude with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, but Bruce’s relationship needs are not quite so simple.

Bruce has Mars (the way he openly asserts himself and expresses his desires) in Taurus, the possessive, pragmatic sign of material abundance. To say that Bruce is possessive and will hang on to all he has accumulated, including Demi, could be an understatement. This cool dude comes with a lot of baggage.

Happily separated from his wife (Venus in Aquarius) with resources and loved ones intact (Mars in Taurus), Bruce has seemingly found a way to have his cake and eat it, too.

Demi’s Dilemma

How do you play light-hearted romantic games and still experience the depths and passions of love?

Demi Moore’s style of relating is not quite so cut and dried as Bruce’s. Born November 11, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico, her Venus (exactly conjunct Saturn in Bruce’s horoscope) is in the sultry, secretive, seductive sign of Scorpio. Demi values the passionate depths and extremes of an emotional bond. Love, rather than being social, is a deeply private, intimate and emotional experience for her. Obsessive and possessive when in love, Demi is reluctant to trust, and prefers seclusion to the active social life favored by her husband.

But like Bruce, Demi’s relationships become even more complex with the addition of Mars. Her Mars in Leo, the deeply private Demi also has a drive to attract special attention. Openly flamboyant, her natural inclination is to fascinate and draw romantic overtures from others.

Demi is now involved in an affair with her martial arts instructor. An extramarital affair is a romantic game that by its very nature is not social. Affairs are passionate, private and carried on in seclusion. The situation seems to have progressed to favor Demi’s dilemma.

But this affair may spark some melodrama in a parting that seemed a little too cool, calm and controlled. The normally placid Bruce (Mars in Taurus) may be stirred into action if he senses the affair is serious enough to spur Demi into the long-delayed divorce.

Is It Forever or Is It for Uranus?

In early 1999, almost a year after their separation, the media began to reveal movement in the sleepy, amiable separation. As transiting Uranus  (planet of rebellion) formed a square aspect to Mars in both horoscopes, Bruce’s relationship with Maria Bravo was revealed. And as Uranus made a conjunction to his Venus in Aquarius, Demi’s affair with her young martial arts instructor became known. It seems the amiable separation could be getting just a little too crowded.

Transiting Uranus, like an unpredictable tornado, changes the landscape. It can pick you up in one place and set you down in another, but it is just as likely to lift you high into the air, shake you up and then put you down exactly where you began. Like any good storm, it also clears the atmosphere.

Expect to hear a lot more about Bruce and Demi during the remainder of this year, as transiting Uranus continues to aspect Venus in the horoscopes of both. Next year, as the storm dies down, you can be sure Bruce and Demi will have redefined their relationship in significant ways. However, with Uranus, it is always best to expect the unexpected.

Notes

Bruce Willis has Saturn at 20 degrees Scorpio, exactly conjunct Demi Moore’s Venus in Scorpio. One person’s Saturn blending with the personal planets of another’s horoscope can be very important. When that planet is Venus, it fosters loyalty and dependency. In a marriage this contact can fuse the couple together for better or worse, enabling the marriage to withstand the tests of time.
