You would
think that Benjamin Bratt and Julia Roberts only have one place to go
from here—down. Yet these two stars continue to rise in fame, in togetherness
and in career status. After leaving the hit show Law and Order,
Benjamin Bratt has gone on to big screen success in Miss Congeniality
with Sandra Bullock, and a small but pivotal role in Stephen Soderbergh's
Traffic. Julia Roberts is, of course, Julia Roberts. But
on top of her movie star fame, she recently won a Golden Globe and has
become a strong contender for this year's Best Actress Oscar for her energetic
role in Soderbergh's other 2000 movie: Erin Brockovich.
I
guess Benjamin Bratt could thank his Sun sign—Sagittarius—for some of
his good luck. Sag is associated with the generous planet Jupiter and
is known for "falling into" pretty cushy situations. So what
brought him together with the toothsome Julia? The way he told it on a
recent David
Letterman episode, she came after him. Apparently she saw him
in a restaurant while she was celebrating her birthday and sent a glass
of wine over to him.
The
relationship surely began as pure, animal attraction. Julia's Mars (planet
of sex and passion) is conjunct Benjamin's Mars—both in Capricorn, sign
of patience and power. Apparently, Benjamin thought his pals at the restaurant
were playing a joke on him and didn't acknowledge Julia's gesture until
the next day, when he realized that this was no gag, but the start of
something big.
It's interesting
that Julia made the first move. In their relationship she is placed in
the more patient, goal-oriented and serious role. Her Saturn (the "fatherly"
"adult" planet) sits on Benjamin's Jupiter (his planet of luck).
With her steering the ship as he splashes and enjoys the ride, this relationship
looks like a regular Love Boat.
He's
Transformed Her Life
Benjamin's
Pluto and Uranus, both planets of huge and sweeping change, are conjunct
Julia's Venus, planet of love and art, in Virgo. Virgo is the sign of
service and of craft. Even though Julia may have played the role of erratic
diva in her early relationships with stars like Lyle Lovett and Kiefer
Sutherland, she is meant to have a much different karmic experience with
this pretty boy. Her Virgo love nature connects perfectly with Benjamin's
earthy chart. She has the desire to give and give and give to him, in
a million small and concrete and deep and soulful ways. It's the giving
that she does for Benjamin that changes Julia for the better.
Also, since
Virgo is the sign of craft, it seems that the conjunction between Benjamin’s
Pluto and Uranus in Virgo with Julia’s Venus has inspired her to change
her approach as an actor. As so many critics have noted about her "Erin"
role, Julia has put more energy into honing her craft than she has in
some of her lighter (Runaway Bride) and lamer (Mary
Reilly) films.
Soulful,
Sexual Connection
Since Julia
is a sexy Scorpio, the way to her soul is most likely through her…well…you
do the math. Julia's Mercury (planet of communication) is conjunct Benjamin's
Neptune, planet of imagination and dreams, both in Scorpio. This gives
a feeling of a magical connection between the two that blends the sexual
and the cerebral. They are probably able to communicate very clearly and
passionately with each other about the deeper sides of their natures.
But, in addition, they can communicate on another level that is sexual
and spiritual, and crosses all mundane boundaries.
The
Future
So where
does the golden couple go from here? Will a gold ring soon appear? It's
quite possible. Julia may be ready now. After all, on Christmas day, a
solar
eclipse in Capricorn hit her Mars. Eclipses tend to have an
effect for about six months. She may be passionately waiting to hear her
man propose. On July 5, 2001, a lunar eclipse in Capricorn will hit Benjamin's
Mercury almost exactly. Perhaps the emotional effects of the lunar eclipse,
mixed with the long-term thinking of Capricorn, mixed with the need for
Mercury to articulate itself, will lead to Benjamin finding the right
words to ask his golden girl to marry him. The question is not will they,
but who will be the first to ask the other to say "I do"?
