The Horoscope in Manifestation by Liz Greene was first published in 1997 by the Centre for Psychological Astrology Press, London and released in paperback to mass market, 2001.

As psychological astrology developed over the last 40 years, there has grown a split between the practices of predictive astrology and astrological counseling and guidance. Many astrologers who take the psychological approach stay clear of the idea of predicting events. Astrologers who work more traditionally may be more focused on prediction and events rather than the inner dynamics of the client. This book from the world's foremost Jungian astrologer, introduces an approach to understand the complexes that constellate in personality and are triggered by the growth and integration processes of life as seen through transits and progressions that link to life events. This approach blends multi-planet themes with the client's actual reality. Life events, as Greene says, “bring flesh onto the bones” of complexes.

Through The Horoscope in Manifestation, Liz Greene brings a new dimension to astrological client work by refocusing the center of attention that generates dialogue between astrologer and client, in order to illuminate the way life gives us just what we need by way of transits, progressions and life experiences. This is an important book for astrologers and students of astrology as it brings depth and enrichment to the consultation experience.

Like most publications from Centre for Psychological Astrology , the format of this book is a transcript of two workshops that combine the teaching with audience participation. The examples used are from participants who were present to interact and answer questions. This gives the reader a feeling similar to being there. It can stimulate personal process while digesting the material.

The first segment of the book works in depth through foundational ideas that explain what Greene is illustrating as a complex . Her definition is extensive, but to capitalize on a summary statement, Greene says, “Complexes, at their core, are not unique. They are archetypal patterns, neither pathological nor individual, and they motivate all human being—perhaps even all life, according to the level of awareness.” She demonstrates how the natal chart predisposes patterns that generate complexes. These include adding selective memories and personal feelings that create a layering of experience to something that is essentially impersonal and has an archetypal core. This personal layering becomes highly charged and our perceptions and projections become the drama of our personal lives.

The second segment of the book discusses the ways in which complexes can manifest. Greene ties together the workings of personal mythology with the variety of options for these themes to be expressed. Projections in relationships, illness, accidents and repetitive patterns of life tie into the expression of complexes driven by both personal and collective evolution. The therapeutic value of understanding the astrological constellation of core issues at work comes to life in the case examples of audience participants.

This latest book from Liz Greene connects the timing mechanisms of predictive astrology to a valuable approach to helping the client understand the facets of psyche that drive personal development. This book calls on astrologers to stretch in their understanding of the dynamics of the core issues of life.
