I was interested in the piece on Kepler... I couldn't help but notice the comment at the beginning of the page stating that the bible mentions THREE wise men. It does not - three gifts-yes. I know it is assumed three wise men but nowhere (anywhere) is the number stated. Since they had gold, it is likely that a group made the journey. |

Just one more note, the adept astrologer's seem to be aligned with God to help and protect the Messiah adding to His spiritual protection.
They left the country without reporting back to King Herod, and Joseph was warned to leave the country with the Child.

I liked your article posing many questions relating to the "Star."
I do know that there was a super brilliant Nova, in the constellation of AQUILA (the Eagle) written in the Chinese records in the Spring of abt. 7 BC - it was visible for about 70 days. The Korean records also show another Nova exactly 1 year later.
If the date of Christ's birth is accurate, could this be the conception??
There is a Christian hymn that goes like this:
"I WHO MADE THE STARS OF NIGHT, I WILL MAKE THEIR DARKNESS BRIGHT, WHO WILL BEAR MY LIGHT TO THEM, WHOM SHALL I SEND?"
the people respond with:
"HERE I AM LORD, IS IT I LORD?
I do believe that GOD created the entire universe, stars and planets and if there is a message, He wrote it and He knows what it says.
A clue in the Bible is that God's creation is GOOD. Everything He created is good. The meaning will follow through that every individual is good as God has created them. God is all powerfull and loving and anything less than perfect was not written by Him. God has created people perfectly and blessed them with many gifts, talents, graces and blessings.
I try to contemplate the meanings of the planets, and turn everything in my life over to God at the end of every day. I know that God is all good and trust that His good will appear in my life and in the lives of people around me. I also thank Him for all the blessings He has bestowed on me and others.
I have done a study of inventions over quite a few years that has been very interesting.

Duco: You wrote that I have been misled when I think that the Christmas star has anything to do with modern astrology. I never made that claim. I only reported that the Magi were Zoroastrian astrologer-priests and that they were aware of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Pisces and its importance to the Hebraic prophesies. You also stated that you believe with respect to astrology that it is "not right for us people to know this imformation." We certainly disagree here, for I believe that choosing ignorance (whatever the motivation) is not in my best interest. The God that I relate to is one of cosmic intelligence and I believe that as we learn more about our cosmos that we deepen our spiritual existence. And, for the record, I have read the Bible.

I think you have been misled when you think that the star that led the wise men has anything to do with modern astrology.
This star was foretold in the Old Testament and the wise men looked for that star.
Elsewhere in the Bible we have the Babylonian tower which was built to look into heaven.
This is typical for that time period, and other such "observatories" have been discovered by archeologists.
Stone Henge is also an example of a like structure.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a religious fanatic who tells everyone that astrology is wrong.
There is no question in my mind that the information astrology provides about events and people and other things is correct.
However it is not right for us people to know this information, for the reasons only God knows for sure.
The heavens are designed in such an intricate manner that there just must be a God.
For that reason alone I feel that I have to listen to Him, and I would suggest to whoever reads this that you will do the same, start by reading the Bible.
Do you remember what happened to the builders of the tower of Babel?See Genesis 11:1-9 |

Rick,
I read your article and liked it. I have done some research myself and have added to what you have said. I have also investigated Astrology in the Bible. Would you like me to send you my pamphlet?

Hi Rick. I think there is much more to the story of the Magi. The teaching of Zoraster about Mazda and the spirits of the body were found in Essene library caches.(Their philosophy is basically that Good must fight evil, that evil is not part of The Oneness of the All.) In the bit that I read that was found amongst the Essenes' books, the idea was that each part of the human body had a spirit that had to be addressed correctly and they all had names. Can we safely quess that Jesus had access to these teachings then?
Persia was troubled by Rome's incursions into the mercantile scene.
Persia was a very sophisticated entity and my quess is that the merchant Kings took the long view of things. Might the Magi as servants of the Persian King been acting as insurgents, hoping to upset the Roman applecart? Any advisor to a great one knows the paranoia of the powerful, so why then the little side trip to Herod? Certainly the gold they gave financed the flight into Egypt after the murder of the Innocents. Could the Magi have been hoping that the King of Kings would grow up to avenge those deaths? Or could that have been the hope of the mundane Persian King but not of his more spiritually aware advisors? All conjecture, all just questions that can only be answered by the heart's voice of wisdom. History just leaves us with little clues. |

Sharon,
Unfortunately there ARE teachings that have been included in Christianity that declare astrology to be sinful, or at best a dangerous distraction. These teachings are NOT part of the spiritual beliefs of Christianity. They are based upon political positioning. It was necessary to give the priest power and take it from the astrologers.
I always like to ask anti-astrology fundamentalist Christians the following question:
"If astrology is so evil in the eyes of God, why did Jesus only invite THREE people to his birthday... and they were ALL astrologers?"
And what about the LORD'S PRAYER?
"It is done on Earth as it is in Heaven." This ia exactly what astrology holds to be true.

I love this article Rick, it's my favorite out of all the work in StarIQ. I wish the gap between the Christian community and astrology wasn't so wide and entrenched, and I wish more people could use astrology, which is surely a gift from God, to enhance their understanding of themselves and of the divine. |
