Hello,
I appreciate the point this author is making. It is true that we seem to be moving to different relationship models.
However, I still think that sex lives in the 8th house. The 8th house is, in my understanding anyway, a doorway to various realms of consciousness. Through sex, we travel that doorway in the arms of another person. It isn't about property, but the experience of totally merging with another human being. To view sex as being about property is old fashioned indeed.
The 11th house might be seen as an Aquarian type of transcendence over worn-out sexual obligations, but not necessarily as representing the doorway through which we open to experience at deeper levels, through which we transform ourselves in intimacy with another - sex. That still seems like the domain of Scorpio in my books.
Maybe the Aquarian model of opening to experience in this way doesn't involve sex at all, but technology. We are learning more about what it means to be human through emerging technologies. This seems more suited to 11th house to me. The use of technology to transcend/broaden/cultivate the human consciousness. |

This article makes some interesting points, but I must respectfully disagree. The 8th house is a water house, dealing with shared emotions, psychological processes with others and yes, fluids. The 11th is an air house: systems, frameworks, sociological structures, networking, community, etc. Perhaps the concepts of alternative or unconventional ideas of intimate relating may belong more to the 11th, but exactly how we intimately bond occurs in the 8th. I like to think of the 8th as representing "everything that happens behind closed doors," including intense love and conflict, and everything related to really sharing ourselves with another. One thing that I will agree with is that the houses are not completely defined and rigid. There is tremendous overlap amongst the houses and we should strive to see things in a multi-faceted way. I commend the author for his ability to do this -- there are sexual dimensions to the 11th and all houses... but it remains rooted to the 8th. |
