Thanks to Eric Francis for an insightful article full of original thought and fine distinctions that will no doubt be eye-opening to many. While I agree that there is definitely a link from the planet Uranus to sexuality (watch those Uranus transits and progressed Uranus stations for sexual milestones in oneself or one’s teenagers, for example), I find it important not to divorce ourselves too hastily (as Uranus might do) from our collective past. In our quest to break away from “death and dowry” definitions of the 8th house, I feel it’s important to preserve astrological definition and social support for what author Wendy Shalit calls “private claims” for those who want them. Leo and Scorpio, with their proclivities for deep attachments of the heart, emotions, genitals and soul, seem suitable signs/houses for assignation of such claims. Though Aquarius can reach great breadth of soul, to which Francis rightly calls our attention, Aquarius at its worst can fritter the vital contingencies natural to the other fixed signs away. Let’s not throw the better aspects of traditional relational bonds (a.k.a. the “baby”) out with the eighth (and second and fifth) house bathwater.

Sex can be found and had in all 12 houses. the first house. well, 'nuff said. The 2nd: is it valued and treasured and comforting? 3rd: longterm marriages can be sibling-like and still be sexy; I know because this is the home of my marriage. The 4th is sex because it is the very creation of our foundation in the first place, inception and conception, the 5th for the thrill of it all, the 6th serves the personality and the first house and sex definitely serves well in devotion. The 7th because one may wish to have a partner during sex, and the 8th because really good sex is transformative because one becomes the other and the other becomes one. The 9th welcomes sex that moves into the higher realms and the 10th is where everyone else recognizes our sexiness. 11th: everything Eric said. The 12th because our sexual desires can be pretty darned styled by our subconscious mind as well as our collective unconsciousness. Sex is probably the very ground of our essence. |

Aha! I am a new student of astrology, but not new at using my intuition. The eighth house placement was so counter to my intuition, this feels better. |
